Last week we went to my
friend's house to decorate Christmas cookies. Melissa has a son named Owen. As we were driving there Madelyn says, "I know how to spell Owen." I told her that was great and asked if she could spell it for me. Madelyn said, "Sure, you spell it O-N."

This is great! When children first begin to spell, they usually start with beginning and ending letters (usually consonants). So, in terms of a developmental spelling perspective, she is exactly right!
Too cute! She's already a better speller than some of the 2nd graders I have had in my class!
