First Day of School

Well, it happened.  Summer came to a screeching halt and school started.  Boo!  The first day of school was today, and the kids had a great day.  Here are some pictures I was able to get amongst the chaos of getting us out of the house and the excitement of seeing friends.

We were allowed to go into the kindergarten classroom for a few minutes.  This is Pierce introducing himself and explaining that his favorite ice cream flavor is "vanilla, just plain vanilla."

Julia at One Month

Julia was one month old on Saturday.  Yes, it's true.  It goes by so fast, and I'm trying to enjoy it and soak as much of it up as I can.  She went to the doctor today, and after dropping down to 8 lbs, 14 oz, at her two week check up, she is back up to 10 lbs., 2 oz.  This puts her at 77%.  She is 23 inches long-100%.  I expect her percentiles to lower throughout her first year.  I may produce large newborns, but they don't stay large for long.  She's trying to find her fingers or thumb but doesn't quite have the control she needs to consistently get them in her mouth.  She's focusing more, and I've seen the promises of a smile quite a bit and few purposeful grins (at least I think she was glad to see me), but no consistent big grins yet.  She's napping pretty well now, and sleeping pretty well at night, too.  Most nights, she settles down easily around the same time as the other kids 7:30ish and wakes up once sometime between 2:00-3:00.  She then usually sleeps until 6:00 or 7:00.  If she wakes at 6:00, I put her back to bed for an hour or so, but if she wakes at  7:00, I start our day then.  I think she would go back to sleep, but once school starts, we have to start our day then anyway.  We might as well get in the habit now.

She continues to be a pretty easy going baby.  The loudest we've heard her cry was for about two seconds when my cold hands picked her up to put her in the bath tub.  She was extremely unhappy about that and let out the funniest sounding scream.  She calmed down once she was in the warm bath water.

I took these pictures on Saturday.  Happy one month, Julia!

Lunch time

Summer is rapidly coming to a close, and I'm mourning that a bit.  I'm going to miss our lazy mornings and relaxed lunches, not to mention my kids when they go off to school.  Sometimes I wish time could stand still.  Love these kids!

Sister Snuggles

A special visit

I said in a previous post that all life is miraculous.  Well, this little peanut is additional proof of that.

We had a very special visit yesterday when my friend (more like Wonder Woman) brought dinner to our family.   When my friend told me she was pregnant with this baby, I was brought to tears.  My friend had been told that she could no longer have children, but she (and the Lord) proved all those experts wrong.  My friend's due date was two weeks after mine, but due to complications, this sweet baby girl was born at 31 weeks gestation.  My friend, her husband (who is also my friend), and this little miracle have been through so much, and it has been a blessing to witness their perseverance during these trials.  They trusted God through it all, and the Lord provided for them in so many different ways.  Now, they have a beautiful baby girl that they never thought possible and a wonderful 5 year old boy that Pierce just adores.

As you can see from the pictures below, Isabel has special place in her heart for my friend, and now she has one for their sweet baby.

If you'd like, you can read more about their story here.  Thanks for the wonderful visit and dinner, and we hope the chaos of the evening won't keep you away!  We love you!

Fun at the pool

We went to the pool yesterday. I'm not sure I'll be able to tackle it by myself, so pool time might just be a weekend adventure for the rest of the summer.  Thankfully, VBS starts at church this week, so Madelyn and Pierce will be occupied with a worthwhile activity.  Here are a few photos from our morning:

Even Julia got in on the fun:
