Not only did Pierce taste

toilet water today, but he also decided the toilet was a good place to rinse off his toothbrush. Thankfully, I caught the toothbrush incident before he put it back in his mouth.

Finally...

We got some measurable snow here yesterday, and the kids were very excited. JD is traveling right now, but before he left, we took the kids out to play. Before you ask, yes, Pierce is wearing pink boots and no, the kids do not have snow bibs.

Cookie time

I didn't take many pictures last week since most of us were not in the best of moods, but here are a few of the girls making peanut butter cookies:

One funny thing

about our recent sickness:

Madelyn told me that she thought her tummy was hurting because her baby was getting ready to come out. It's amazing what she already grasps about labor.

Stomach bug (continued)

*****Warning, somewhat graphic details follow.***************

Well, we thought we were in the clear. Pierce was clearly on the mend, the rest of us felt well, and we headed to Charlottesville. Our friends were wonderful, as they insisted we come down regardless of our condition. We were here for about 24 hours when Madelyn said, "Mommy, my tummy hurts." Uh oh. Sure enough. Twenty minutes later we were cleaning up a bit of a mess; although, I must say that she did a pretty good job of getting her throw up where it needed to go. So we went through a few hours of letting her take a sip of water and then holding a trash can up to her face so she could deposit it back in the trash. By about 10:00 pm, she seemed to be over her wretching and finally settled in to a good sleep.

Meanwhile, I was starting to feel a little off. Madelyn woke me up around 3:30 am to tell me she was very thirsty. I made my way up the stairs, but by the time I got up there, I was feeling pretty bad. I sent Madelyn down to get JD, and I spent the next twenty minutes on the bathroom floor. As of now, at 11:41 am, we all seem to be on the way to recovery, but JD is on edge waiting to feel the effects.

Stomach bug

Another stomach bug is making its round in the DC area, and Pierce has been lucky enough to catch it. It really hasn't been horrible, but I've still been doing extra laundry and carpet scrubbing. So far, the rest of us are fine, but I'm just waiting for the next one of us to feel its effects. I'm hopeful that we'll make it through the day today incident free because we are supposed to head out of town tomorrow morning. We really want to avoid the inauguration craziness that is getting ready embark on this town. I hope you and yours are well.

Just because...

I haven't blogged in a while, mostly because our lives have returned to normal and there just isn't much to tell. But, here it is the middle of January, and I realized I hadn't taken one picture of the kids since Christmas. So here are two of the 20 that I took today that are worth showing. Enjoy!

The parker and the fixer

I admit it...I have a parking problem. Right after Madelyn was born, I nailed a minivan as I pulled into a parking spot at WalMart. I had Madelyn with me. JD was studying for the bar, and I was in a hurry b/c I knew I had about 45 minutes before Madelyn needed to nurse. So, I whipped the car right into the rear bumper of the minivan. I was sooooo emotional anyway, but this sent me over the edge. I called JD and I was pretty hysterical. He left his studying, went into the store, had a worker page the owner of the minivan, apologized profusely for my mishap, and made all the necessary arrangments and information exchanges. All the while, I cried and nursed in the Blazer. Parking issue number 1 and fix number 1.

Last year, I pulled into a parking spot at Madelyn's preschool and tapped yet another minivan on the door. Not nearly the damage done this time, but the guy still made an insurance claim (as he should have). Our car only had a tiny scratch, so at least we didn't have to get our car fixed this time. However, I called JD upset, and he calmed me down once again. Parking issue number 2 and fix number 2.

Wednesday, I pulled into a parking spot at Madelyn's school in our minivan (I'm still getting used to the differences in driving the van versus the car.), and I pulled up a little too far. The front of the minivan went over the parking barricade just a tiny bit. Let me mention that JD's only concern with the minivan was that the front bumper seemed a bit loose. Well, that concern was a legitimate one because as I backed up, I heard this really loud pulling sound. The front bumper was now very loose. Oh, I was soooooooo mad at myself. I called JD and he calmed me down once again. The next morning he was able to pop the bumper back in place and informed me that this was probably our only free fix. Parking issue number 3 and fix number 3.

I am so thankful that I have a patient husband. I love you, hon!
