Easter

We went to Tappahannock for Easter. We had a great time and there were lots of activities going on. Madelyn was very excited to spend time with her cousins.
There was an "Easter Eggsplosion" festival at church, complete with a moon bounce, inflatable slide, and an Easter egg hunt.

Do you think you could find the eggs?

We then went to Granny's house for Easter dinner with extended family, and we made sure to get a picture of the entire Bryan Taliaferro clan:

And of course, church on Easter Sunday:

Easter eggs

We dyed Easter eggs yesterday. Madelyn was pretty pleased.

Starting a rumor

When I dropped Madelyn off at Sunday school yesterday morning, she said to her teacher, "I have a little brother, and I'm going to have a little sister soon." The lady looked at me with a big smile as if to say, "Congratulations!" I quickly informed her that Madelyn would not be having a little sister soon. Where did Madelyn come up with that and who else has she told?

Well-Child Check-Ups

I took the kids to the doctor today and both are doing well. Aside from Pierce getting two shots, it was an uneventful visit. Madelyn even got to pee in a cup for the first time, and she found this quite amusing.

Madelyn appears to be taking after me in her growth stats:

29 pounds-35%
37 inches-35%

Pierce, for the time being, appears to be taking after his dad:

22 pounds-45%
30.5 inches-75%

While they didn't measure Madelyn's head, I can assure you she has a large one. So does Pierce-95th percentile! I know head size doesn't correlate to intelligence, but I sure wish it did. I'd have a couple of geniuses on my hands.

New Found Freedom

I've always known that JD and I were blessed to have a daughter who never ventured out of her room until we came to get her. Sometimes she would be in her room for a good 30-45 minutes after waking, but she would play contentedly until we walked in. Well, that period in our lives appears to be over. The good news: Madelyn is staying dry through the night about 70% of the time. The bad news: She wakes up really needing to pee--usually around 6:30--and feels the need to come and tell us about it.

She has been pretty good with her willingness to go back to bed and "rest" until one of us comes back to get her. I'm wondering how long this will last, as I'm getting questions like, "Are you going back to bed, too?" or "For how much longer, Mommy?" I've decided that 7:00 AM is the absolute earliest that I'm willing to start the day with my children, so now I've got to figure out how to re-instill that to my daughter. When can kids start telling time?

Birthday Boy!

Happy Birthday, Pierce!

Our baby is one today! Madelyn's first year went by fast, but I feel like Pierce's first year went by at warp speed. He is just the sweetest baby I know. Can I still call him a baby? I think I can, at least until he's walking. Lots of people comment about how content and happy he is, so I know it's not just me being a doting mother. So, no, he's not walking yet. However, he keeps us on our toes and I can't imagine the challenge once he is steady on his feet. He's starting to say words...dat (that) and dis (this) are the most common we hear. From time to time, we hear a deliberate da da or ma ma. With all of the birthday celebrations we've had, he's come to love balloons. He points to them and says, "Dat, dat!". I'll say, "What is it?" He replies with, "Ba, ba!", which I assume is the way he can say balloon right now. When he eats a banana, he'll sometimes say nana.

I'm exhausted from the weekend. It was a busy one. I'm heading to bed, so I'll post a birthday picture later. Here's a flashback from one year ago:

A conversation I overheard

(JD's getting dressed for work.)

Madelyn: Daddy, you got underwear on?
JD: Yep.
Madelyn: Daddy, you got a t-shirt on?
JD: Yep.
Madelyn: I got underwear on, but not a t-shirt. When I'm a big girl, I'll wear a bra.
JD: What will you put in your bra?
Madelyn: My shoulders!
