Our new house

My blogging has been lacking lately, and that is mostly due to our move on Friday. We put a contract on a house in March and settled in May, and since then, I've been working to get us packed and moved, and I've also been working on some home improvement projects. The movers are coming on Friday, and they are moving our furniture, and I've been packing and taking boxes over every day. I think this is going to be a great house for us. It has 5 bedrooms upstairs, 3.5 baths, a double garage, a fenced in backyard that isn't overwhelmingly large, and it was well within our budget.

The house:

The kitchen:

This is where a bulk of the home renovation has taken place. I really like the counters in this kitchen. They are slate colored Corian, and I really like the color and surface. The cabinets really needed some work. At first, I thought the white looked nice and brightened the room, but upon closer inspection, I noticed that the paint was chipping and some of the hardware had been painted over. So, I've been working steadily on them using Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformations. It has been relatively easy, and I'm almost done and really like the results. It has been extremely time consuming. I was determined to get it done before we moved in, though. I should be finished (nearly) tomorrow, with the exception of adding the new hardware and hanging them. Once we're moved in and the cabinets are hung, I'll post the after pictures.

The family room:

Another item on my wishlist was a family room directly off the kitchen. I wanted to be able to see the kids easily from the kitchen and wanted them to be able to see me. It is a very open space, and I'm very happy with it. There is also a nice sized foyer, dining room, living room, half bath, and laundry room on the main floor.

The master bedroom (before):

We never saw the house with furniture in it, but I would love to know what the previous owners had in there that looked good with this paint color. It's a cross between yellow and dijon mustard. The bedroom is a nice size and has a dressing vanity outside of the master bathroom, which has a double sink vanity. I'm really excited about that after sharing a tiny sink with no vanity with JD for the last two years.

The master bedroom (after):

The picture quality isn't great, but the new color is a brown/dark khaki color and it will look great with our bedroom set. I must say a big thank you to my wonderful sister-in-law who sacrificed several hours on a Saturday afternoon to help get this done.

The upstairs hall bath:

The backyard:We have a beautiful deck and level backyard. One neighbor has a pretty substantial play set and another neighbor has a trampoline. The kids are dying to give them both a try. We have a finished basement that has a good-sized rec room and a full bathroom. The garage is also in the basement.

This concludes the mini-tour. I'll be sure to post more pictures of the house once we're moved in and a bit more settled.

Can't wait to see the after pics of the kitchen! I think my mother in law was using the same product in her kitchen.
